Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine observed World “Suicide Prevention Day-2023” on 11/09/2023 at JSS Medical College. The event was graced by Dr Praveen Kulkarni, Vice Principal (Para Clinical), JSS Medical College, Dr Kishore, Prof and Head, Department of Psychiatry, JSS Medical College, Dr Sunil Kumar D, Prof and Head, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, faculty, Postgraduates of Department of Psychiatry and Community Medicine, and MBBS Phase III Part I students. With the brief introduction on the importance of suicide prevention, world suicide prevention day, and the theme of 2023 by Dr Smitha MC, Associate Professor of Department of Community Medicine, the event began by Dr Praveen Kulkarni addressing the gathering. Dr Praveen Kulkarni encouraged the students to reach out for help whenever required and ensured that the institution is always there for their support. This was followed by Dr Kishor sensitizing the students on the facilities available in the institution for promoting mental health and suicide prevention. He also briefed the students about the SAFL (Self-Assessment For Life) app launched in 2020 by the department of psychiatry, for detecting the risk of suicide and directing the user for appropriate help as is required. Followed by this Dr Sunil Kumar .D addressed the students on suicide prevention and the effect of suicide on family members. Dr Smitha M.C then encouraged the students to participate in several competitions organized on the account of World Suicide Prevention Day-2023 and concluded the event with the vote of thanks.
