CRISPR-Cas9 Mediated Gene editing in Zebrafish

The guest lecture by our honored speaker Mr. Raghavender Medishetty on the subject “CRISPR-Cas9 Mediated Gene editing in Zebrafish” was organized on 10th January by Department of pharmacology, JSS College of pharmacy Mysore. Seema Mehdi, lecturer, Department of Pharmacology, heartily welcomed the guest lecturer and Dr K L Krishna, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, gave a brief introduction about the speakers before the commencement of the talk. The session was then taken forward by Mr. Raghavender Medishetty where he shared his knowledge and experience of working as a Senior research fellow at Dr. Reddy’s ILS. The talk was focused on applications of CRISPR for animal models for different types of disease forms. The talk had covered the topics on cas9 as an adaptive immune system DNA of bacteria, onsite targeting damage via homologous and non- homologous mechanism, CRISPR induced knockout of the zebrafish tyrosine kinase c-MET (HGFR) results in severe defects and consistent with its function in mammals. Mr. Raghavender Medishetty took explained about the wound healing and tissue regeneration in humans via c-MET receptor and also knocking out of the gene. Overall, the talk was found to be informative and interactive. It focused on Importance of Cas9 Mediated Gene editing in Zebrafish and its future perspective for the students for their future research. The session was concluded by Dr K L Krishna, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, by thanking the speaker for sharing their vast experience and knowledge.
