International Youth Day Celebration 2023

The International Youth Day Celebration with the theme 'Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World—JOIN US TO CREATE A PROSPEROUS TOMORROW' was a resounding success, drawing participation from approximately 700 students from various colleges of Mysore. Organized in collaboration with the Department of Studies in Social Work, Manasagangotri, the Grass Roots Research and Advocacy Movement, Participatory Research in Asia, and Hanns Seidel Foundation, the event aimed to underscore the significance of green skills among the youth for a sustainable future. Dr. Anil S Bilimale, Chief MPH Coordinator, School of Public Health, JSS MC, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. He delivered an inaugural speech highlighting the pivotal role of youths, constituting over fifty percent of the population, in the pursuit of sustainability. He emphasized the significance of acquiring green skills for building a sustainable future. The event unfolded with various engaging activities: The day commenced with a compelling Street Play Competition, the afternoon featured dynamic competitions, including a Poster Presentation Competition and a Quiz Competition. These activities encouraged students to express their thoughts on sustainability and green skills, while also testing their knowledge of pertinent global issues. The event concluded with the Reels Challenge, harnessing the power of digital media to creatively address sustainability topics. The panel discussion, moderated by Dr.Basavaraju R Shreshta, Executive Director GRAAM with Mr. Darshan Puttannaiah, MLA of Melukote Assembly constituency and President of Sarvodaya Karnataka Party, brought together dynamic political voices. Ms. Aishwarya Mahadev, a youth leader and spokesperson for the National Congress, along with Mr. Kaveesh Gowda, a young politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Secretary of Vidya Vikas Educational Trust, Karnataka, engaged in insightful discourse. The event was followed by an interactive session with Mysuru's youth, who actively engaged with these emerging political leaders, making the discussion a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives. Dr. Sulochanadevi B C, Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, JSS MC, served as the judge for the Quiz Competition. Through these competitions and discussions, students gained valuable insights into governance, politics, and the transformative potential of youth participation. Swarna SR, Preksha Singh, Harshita J, Apoorva Singh, Chetan MS, Kishor DS, Chandana Yadav, and Dhanalaxmi are 2nd-semester students are doing fellowship with GRAAM (NGO). They immerse themselves in Community Based Participatory Research, gaining insight into diverse aspects of social action research projects. This experience offers a holistic comprehension of modalities within the realm of community-based initiatives. Dr. Preksha and Chethan hosted the Master of Ceremonies, while Dhanalaxmi, Harshitha, and Swarna efficiently organized the Quiz competition. Aravindhan, Allisha, Steven, and Rinish participated actively. Preksha, Mohit, and Apporva excelled in the poster competition. Kishor delivered the vote of thanks, and Chandana managed judges and schedules flawlessly. This event facilitated valuable learning for all participants. The International Youth Day Celebration fostered an environment of learning, awareness, and inspiration, as students embraced their role in shaping a brighter, more sustainable future.
