NASH/NAFLD screening camp using FIbroScan technology

A NASH/NAFLD screening camp using FIbroScan technology was conducted by the SIG for Liver and Life in association with School of Public Health, Department of Gastroenterology, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Echosens. The inauguration was conducted at 10 am by Dr. Prof. B Manjunatha (Registrar, JSS AHER), Dr H. Basavanagowdappa (Principal), Dr. Suma M N (Vice Principal), DR. Praveen Kulkarni (Vice Principal), Sri S R Satish Chandra (Administrative Officer), Dr Anil S Bilimale (Chairman SIG), Dr Aaradhya H V (Secretary SIG), Dr. Vanitha Reddy (HOD of Nutrition and dietetics). Members of SIG, students and faculties of School of Public Health were present. Dr Sreena T V coordinated the event. The screening program reflects the collective effort of SIG for Liver and Life to prioritize liver health and well-being, as NASH and NAFLD are becoming increasingly prevalent, and early detection is vital to ensure timely interventions and prevent potential complications. The event witnessed an impressive turnout with approximately 187 participants, including teaching and non-teaching staff, administrative staff, security officers from different colleges under JSS AHER. Attendees underwent a comprehensive evaluation encompassing NAFLD/NASH risk factors and signs. Parameters such as obesity, high blood pressure, and previous blood reports were meticulously analysed. After detailed assessment of socio demographic, Lifestyle, and other risk factors along with anthropometric measurement and Blood Pressure participants underwent Body Fat Analysis (BFA) to find out the visceral fat, muscle mass and fat composition. The FibroScan report and BFA report were explained clearly to the participants by the experts. There was a counselling session arranged to the participants for the interpretation of their FibroScan, BFA and diet counselling. 82 out of 187 were screened for FibroScan after extending the screening time from 10 am to 4.30pm.
