General Health Camp and Cervical Cancer Screening Program was organized by the Department of Biochemistry, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER in collaboration with the Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII) as a part of Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) under the Department of Science and Technology Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (DST-PURSE). PHRII and JSS AHER have been working on several collaborative studies and SSR activity is one example of such collaborative programs between these two institutions. SSR activities are being conducted to imbibe a culture of social commitment among the scientific community and develop an ecosystem to create two-way engagement between science and society. The inaugural function of the screening camp was organized on 13th July 2023 at 11:00am at JSS Medical College, JSS AHER. Dr. Purnima Madhivanan Associate Professor, University of Arizona, USA, and the Founder of PHRII, Dr. Vijaya Sreenivas Senior Research Physician, Purnima Jay Administrative Officer PHRII, Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Principal JSS Medical College, Dr. Suma M.N and Dr. Praveen Kulkarni Vice Principals JSS Medical College, Mr. Satish Chandra Administrative Officer, Dr. Akila Prashant, Professor, and Head Department of Biochemistry, along with other faculty, research scholars, and M.Sc. Students of the Department of Biochemistry were present at the gathering. On this occasion, the Department of Biochemistry would like to thank the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar, JSS AHER for providing approval and support for conducting this activity, Dr. Basavanagowdappa, and Dr. Suma M N for their input, presence, and constant support, Dr. Prashant Vishwanath, Dean (Research) and PI, DST-PURSE for his constant support and for allocating funds from DST-PURSE for conducting this camp. The Department would also like to thank the support extended by PHRII staff, Faculty members and Research scholars of CEMR for the smooth conduct of the camp.
