The Special Interest Group on Human Genomics & Rare Disorders (SIG-HGRD), JSS Medical College and Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru organized a guest lecture entitled Cancer Biomarker and Therapeutic Target Discovery using UALCAN Platform on Wednesday, 21st June 2023.

Dr.Sooryanarayana Varambally, Professor, Department of Pathology, University of Alabama at Birmingham was the key resource person for the event. His talk focused on their team's effort for BIG cancer data dissemination through a researcher-centric, distinctive, and continuously evolving web portal, called UALCAN (https://ualcan.path.uab.edu), for detailed data analyses and visualization. UALCAN was released in 2017 and has been visited over 11,75,000 times by researchers from over 100 countries and has been cited about 4,000 times, creating a large global user base making cancer research a team effort, and enabling numerous cancer target discoveries and biomarker development. Further, he also discussed about the identification of some targets and how we can validate and develop drugs for the targets. We discussed at length the strengths and limitations of UALCAN. The session was attended by more than 50 participants.
