National CME - Scope of Anatomy in Future - 17-06-2023

With the divine blessings of His Holiness, the Department of Anatomy, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Mysuru in association with Karnataka Chapter of Anatomists organized a National CME on 'Scope of Anatomy in Future' held on 17th June 2023, Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College.

The Programme started with an invocation song sung by Ms. Sri Vidya.

The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Vidya C.S the organizing chairman of the CME

The CME was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by chief guest Dr.Sudha Seshayyan Former Vice Chancellor of the Dr. MGR Medical University, Tamilnadu, Dr.Surinder Singh Vice chancellor JSS AHER, Dr.Manjunatha B Registar JSS AHER, Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa Principal, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Dr.Vidya C.S. Professor and HOD of Anatomy JSSMC and organizing chairman of the CME, Dr.Pushpalata K, Professor of Anatomy Organizing Co-Chairman and Dr.Deepa Bhat, Professor of Anatomy, JSSMC, Organizing secretary.

Guest of honor by Dr.Prakash B.S. President of KCA spoke about the importance of anatomy and the use of anatomy in our day-to-day lives. He shed light on the ways to make Anatomy more interesting and the use of technology in Anatomy teaching.

Dr.Surinder Singh Vice Chancellor of JSS AHER addressed the gathering. He advised the students and young anatomists present to go beyond their qualifications and think out of the box and focus on participation in clinical trials gene therapy and cancer research.

Dr.Sudha Seshayyan delivered the keynote address where she stressed the untouched intricacies in the vast field of Anatomy such as microanatomy, imaging, genetics, and cosmetic surgery. She ended her talk by saying Anatomy is an ever-new and dynamic subject.

Panel Discussion of the CME, Chaired Dr.Sanjeev Kolagi, Dr Prakash B S, Dr.Kannan Shah (Online), Ms. Tejashree and Mr. Rohit B, Session moderated by Dr.Deepa Bhat, Professor of Anatomy, JSS MC

The first session of the CME was on the topic 'Anatomists in The Realm of Clinical Anthropology' by Dr. W M S Johnson gave a very insightful talk on the possibilities of Anatomists in the field of Anthropology., The session was chaired by Dr. Asha KR and Dr. Seema Deepak.

Dr. Vivek Singh Malik gave an informative talk on 'Anatomist as an Administrator' and motivated us to take on more administrative roles, the session was chaired by Dr. Girish Patil and Dr. Meenakshi Parthasarathy.

The post-lunch sessions began with a talk on the topic 'Enhanced clinical skills through cadaveric anatomy' by Dr.Brijendra Singh where he shed light on the use of cadaveric skill labs as surgical skill labs and the importance of focusing on post-graduate learning.

The academic proceedings ended with a panel discussion on 'Challenges, solutions and future direction for Anatomists' moderated by Dr.Deepa Bhat.

The Panelists included Dr.Prakash BS, Dr.Sanjeev Kolagi, Dr.Kannan Shah (online), and interns Dr. Tejashree S M and Dr. Rohit B Rajeev where they discussed challenges as a researcher, and suggestions to extend the field of anatomy in neurosurgery and connect with clinicians using Artificial intelligence.

The Valedictory function marked the closure of a very successful CME with the support of all the Guests, delegates, online and offline participants gave positive feedbacks and appreciated organizing team.

Interactive and brain storming session with resource persons

A Board meeting was held on 17th June by department of Anatomy, with Dr Sudha Seshayyan [Former Vice Chancellor of the Dr.MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu], Dr.W.M.S.Johnson [Dean of Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital], Dr.Brijendra Singh [ Professor and Head of Department of Anatomy AIIMS Rishikesh] along with Dr.Vidya C.S. [Prof and Head of Department of Anatomy JSSMC] and faculty. The Academic audit of July 2021 to June 2022 was presented by Dr.Vidya C.S.

Feedback and suggestions were received from the guests regarding ways to improve and new ideas to inculcate in the curriculum and activities of the department.

Proposed new Value-Added Programmes like Special staining techniques, Cadaveric skill lab, Basic suturing techniques, Cadaveric injection techniques, Immunohistochemistry, and collaboration with the department of pathology for training in histopathology for the students were discussed. These courses should be arranged beyond normal working time of the students and certificates should be given.

Suggestions were made to include awareness on students in the voluntary body donation program and regarding Proper and efficient Biomedical waste disposal by the department was discussed.

The guests appreciated the progress, the innovation and the support provided to the students by the department and wished the department for future endeavours.
