JSS Medical College

Inauguration of Liquid Chromatograph-High Resolution Mass Spectrometer (LC-HRMS) facility

Thumb

JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research in support from the Department of Biotechnology under the Boost to University Interdisciplinary Life Science Departments for Education and Research (BUILDER) program has established a Liquid Chromatograph coupled with High-Resolution Mass Spectrometer (LC-HRMS) facility in the Centre for Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CEMR), Department of Biochemistry, JSS Medical College. The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director, NIMHANS in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor JSSAHER; Executive Secretary, Dr. C.G. Betsurmath; Vice Chancellor, Dr. Surinder Singh; Registrar, Dr. B. Manjunatha; Dean Research, Dr. Prashant Vishwanath; Principal, Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Vice Principal (Pre-clinical), Dr. M.N.Suma; Vice Principal (Clinical), Dr. M. Mahantappa and Administrative Officer, Mr. S. R. Satish Chandra. A brochure, highlighting the facilities available in the CEMR laboratory was also released on this occasion.

This facility is one of the most important sophisticated units of JSS AHER involved in clinical research, the discovery of novel biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and identification of new therapeutic targets. LC-HRMS can provide exquisite analytical specificity for the presence or absence of toxicological substances present in the biofluids such as blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, lymph, and saliva. Furthermore, this instrument can be used in the field of Clinical Toxicology, Forensic Toxicology, Microbiology, and Molecular Diagnostics. HRMS can also be used in the rapid identification/analysis of microorganisms, mass spectrometry imaging, and retrospective drug analysis. This state-of-the-art facility helps in advanced research by its precision detection capability of very low quantities of known and hitherto unknown biomolecules. In addition to health sciences, LC-HRMS has been in use in various fields of biology, life sciences, physical-, chemical, and agricultural sciences. In summary, this new facility created by JSS AHER is a major contribution not only to better clinical research but also to a boost to the rese
