Hands-on training on basics of Clinical research for M Pharm students

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru in collaboration with Clinical Research excellence (CCRE), JSS AHER, Mysuru organized a training program on “Hands-On Training in Basics of Clinical Research” for I year M Pharm students on 6th & 7th December, 2022 at CCRE Centre, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. The main objective of the program was to educate the participants about the steps, diverse activities, and processes involved in a clinical trial. The following speakers addressed the students Dr. Prathibha Pereira, Dr. M. D. Ravi, Dr. Vinaya Rani G, Ms. Shwetha shree M S, Dr. Rovin M Theempalangad, Ms. Charitha Reddy T, Ms. Ramya U, and Ms. Shwetha A N. On Day 1session began with an introduction about CCRE collaborative team then followed by a pre-test to determine the students' prior knowledge so that the subsequent sessions could be more clearly emphasized on the topics that the students needed more understanding of. Following the pre-test, Dr. Vinaya Rani continued the training programme with topics such as Introduction to Clinical Research, Communications with Ethics Committee, and Process of Clinical Trial Audits. Dr. M D Ravi led the post-lunch session on the Informed Consent process and the required documentation, followed by Dr. Prathibha Periera's Ethical Considerations in Clinical Research and Ms. Shwetha Shree M S's Clinical Trial Monitoring Activities. On Day 2 session began with talk from Dr. Rovin T on handling of investigational medicinal products, Ms. Ramya explained recording patient data in CRF's/ EDC- pediatric trials, Ms. Shwetha A N explained recording patient data in CRF's/ EDC- adult clinical trials, and Ms. Supritha ended the session by briefing about resolving data queries. The last session for the day was group activity followed by post test to ascertain the students understanding. Overall, students became acquainted with the fundamentals of clinical research and received hands-on training. Students also gave positive feedback on the event
