Blood Donation Camp at JSSCPO

The Blood Donors Club of JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty was established in the year 2010. Since the time of its establishment, the club has been actively participating in voluntary blood donation in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Government Medical College & Hospital, Ooty with around 300 Pharmacy students and 40 staff of JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty as active donors. The Club also maintains an updated database of the donors with the required details in assistance with the identified student coordinator(s).

The service provided by the Blood Donors Club is voluntary and no monetary benefit is provided to the donors. The donors are then issued with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Blood Bank, Government Medical College & Hospital, Ooty.

Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty in association with Indian Pharmaceutical Association(IPA), Nilgiris Local Branch and National Service Scheme – JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty Unit, jointly in coordination with Government Medical College Hospital, Ooty organized a voluntary blood donation camp at JSS College Auditorium on 23.09.2022 as a part of World Pharmacists Day Celebrations. Dr S P Dhanabal, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty welcomed and honored the Chief Guest Dr. Kiran, MD., Medical Officer - Blood Bank, Government Medical College and Hospital, Ooty. The program was then inaugurated by Dr. S P Dhanabal, Mr. H K Basavalingadevaru, Administrative officer and Dr. S Ponnusankar, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice along with IPA President Dr. R Vadivelan. About 82 volunteers were screened for the Blood Donation Camp; all their vital parameters such as Haemoglobin, Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate, Weight was checked and 55 donors donated blood in the camp. Dr. Keerthana C & Dr. J Jeyaram Bharathi, Staff In-charge, Blood Donors Club, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty along with the help student volunteers organized the blood donation camp and it was well appreciated by the doctors of Government Medical College & Hospital, Ooty. Various blood groups such as A positive, B positive, O positive were donated by the volunteers and rare blood group such as AB positive, O negative and B negative were donated by the volunteers which was highly appreciated by the blood bank team.
