JSS University is organizing two weeks training program in Pharmacovigilance from 16-28 February 2015 at JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru in collaboration with Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC-WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring). Dr. H.G. Shivakumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Musuru welcomed the gathering. Dr. G. Parthasarathi, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, JSS University, Mysuru briefed the gathering about objectives of the training course. Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University, Mysuru inaugurated the training course and delivered the presidential address. In his address he highlighted the importance of capacity building in the area of Pharmacovigilance in improving the patient safety. Mr. Sten Olsson, WHO Programme Expert, Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Sweden was the Guest of honour. He addressed the gathering about importance of conducting this kind of training programs at regional levels for the effective functioning of Pharmacovigilance centres. Dr. Shanthi Pal, Group Lead, World Health Organization (WHO) Safety & Vigilance Group delivered a keynote address on “Pharmacovigilance - Global Scenario”. In her keynote address she briefed about importance of Pharmacovigilance in accessibility, availability and affordability of medicines in low and middle income countries. This training course aimed at developing expertise in the area of Pharmacovigilance amongst health care professionals and drug regulators from Asia Pacific region. Twenty two internationally known experts from Australia, Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and India are participating in the program as speakers and trainers. About 16 participants from different countries of Asia Pacific region are attending the training course.
