JSS College of Pharmacy had organized an industrial visit to BIOCON on 26-06-2022 for M Pharm students of Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis Departments. Mr.Srinivas S (Lead, People learning and Development -HRD) and their team, Sudeep P R (HR) & Gayathri R (Assistant Manager) briefed about the Company ,where students got to know about Biocon and They provided us an insight of companies working environment . The R&D sector of the Company, Syngene, striving towards making natural and affordable biopharmaceuticals spanning small molecules, recombinant proteins, peptides and monoclonal antibodies. Discussion regarding the use and success of ALZUMAb® (Itolizumab) in treating the patients of COVID 19 was of great interest. He conferred about various collaborators and partners. Recent acquisition with Viatris for their global expansion and serving people were also brought into light. Ms Roshini where she briefed us about the diversity , equity and inclusion that is required in a workplace. She also gave a brief outlook of what to look forward in a company and the need to belong and feel proud in the work we do. Biocon B 1 Block Manufacturing Unit (mAB Production) Nithin (Head of the B 1 Block) detailed about the manufacturing of Drug Product in depth, and the manufacturing of monoclonal antibodies like Trastuzumab & Bevacizumab biosimilar product. We were familiarized with production and the sterile parameters involved in manufacturing of insulin vial and cartridge under his guidance. S Srinivasan explained about the Drug Substance Process in depth about the Grade which are maintained in the sterile area for manufacturing ,the use of various instruments like Bioreactor. Each manufacturing person would have personnel training on Gowning Procedures for working in sterile area. Overall, the Industry Visit was informative and valuable, and we gained in depth knowledge regarding the working premises of a pharmaceutical company as well as about the sterile manufacturing of drug substance including the biosimilars.
