The Department of Pharmacology and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty organized a webinar on “Fundamental techniques in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics- An overview” a lecture delivered by Dr. R. Sivasamy, Dept. of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. The program was inaugurated with the welcome address by Dr. Praveen TK, Professor & Head, Dept. of Pharmacology and the opening remarks were given by Dr S P Dhanabal, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty. Followed by the speaker introduction by Dr. A. Justin, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty and coordinator of this webinar. Dr. R. Sivasamy discussed about the novel methods for detection and treatment of various cancers and he briefed regarding the development of cancer, genes that are responsible for cancer occurrence. He also elaborated about various diagnostic methods like mutation detection method, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), molecular diagnostics methods, DNA microarray assays, DNA sequencing technique and Next generation sequencing (NGS) Dr. Sivasamy also discussed about the several cancer treatments and their recent advancements. He covered all conventional and novel treatment options for cancer such as Chemotherapy, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Immunotherapy, Radiation therapy and Stem Cell Transplantation Therapy. Further, the session was opened for the interaction with delegates. Totally 50 delegates were attended this webinar. Dr. A. Justin also delivered a vote of thanks and concluded the session.
