Dr. Muthukumar, Principal scientist from CFTRI, Mysuru delivered an excellent inspirational speech on 27/08/2018 at the Department of Pharmacology, JSSCP, Mysuru. All the faculty, research scholars and PG students attended the guest lecture. The lecture on SMART well expanded as Scientific Management of Ambition, Resources and Technology mainly addressed the M.pharms and PhDs kindling an interest in detecting the extraordinary element in the ordinary. He discussed some very important points like how without a DREAM our ambitions are not reachable and also the difference between people who use their conscious and sub-conscious mind to dream and think. He spoke about the importance of “today” in achieving a dream in terms of it’s to do something better than yesterday and that tomorrow never comes. He added the importance of a 5 year plan strategy in the roadmap to the dream. He then spoke about the importance of smart work in the new era along with equal weightage to hard work substantiating with some live examples in his lab. He gave a very useful session on the resources part of the lecture which impressed most of the students. The smart ways to decide a journal publish it and even tips to reach the chief editor. He even gave advices on how to do costless chemical hunting in its scarcity in our lab. He also opened up avenues for researchers in terms of various available fellowships with even the remuneration in each of them. Finally he concluded the lecture by expressing his vision of India being the employers of the research programs than Indians being brain drained to the developed countries as employees. Dr.Muthukumar’s lecture was very much different from the usual technical stuffed scientific lectures, evidently sparked interest in the audience and sensitized the students about the importance of publishing research work in impact factor journal.
