Report on Suttur Jathra-2018 Department of Pharmacy Practice actively took part in the Exhibition of Suttur Jathra Festival held during 13th-18th January 2018 at Sri Suttur Srikshetra, Suttur in Mysore District. The JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore had put up a stall in the Suttur Jathra Exhibition showcasing the various courses and activities of different Departments. The exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday, 13th January 2018 at 4 PM by Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Vidyaranya Bharathi Swamiji of Sri Hampi Virupaksha Mahasamsthana Math, Hampi and Sri R.V. Deshapande, Minister for Large & Small Scale Industries, Government of Karnataka in the presence of other dignitaries. Several thousands of people /devotees visited the stall during the 6-days event and they were educated on the various courses offered by the institution, course admission eligibility and various job opportunities available upon successful completion of the course. The general public or visitors were also made aware of the goals, objectives and as well as the roles of each of the departments. During this event, the Department of Pharmacy Practice educated the visitors / general public about the safe use of medicines including the safety precautions to be taken by the elderly while using medicines and how to safely store the medications away from the reach of children. The farmers were educated on safe use of pesticides and also on the preventive / precautionary measures to be followed to avoid the toxicity while using pesticides for farming. The public/ farmers/ villagers were also made aware of the existence and the services of Poison Information Centre run by the Department of Clinical Pharmacy located at JSS Hospital, Mysore. They were provided with the Toll-Free number and the Poison Information Google Application details to avail the services on drugs & poison information. Also, the public were created awareness and educated as to how the chronic diseases including Diabetes, Hypertension and Asthma could be prevented and better managed. Feedback and/or suggestions were collected from the visitors and majority of them had given their opinion that the information provided was useful and helpful for them. The Suttur Jathra Exhibition in-charge committee honored us for participating in the exhibition, and also for having actively involved in creating awareness and educating the general public with the basic theme of Suttur Jathra-2018 and rewarded our institution with a participation certificate and a memento.
