Inter Professional Education for the year 2019-2020 was held on 15th April 2019 at Lecture Hall – 1 at JSS Hospital, Mysore. Eighth term students of MBBS and Pharm D interns attended the session. The topic for discussion was Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Eighth term students presented various topics on CKD that included the definition, epidemiology, causes, pathophysiology, complications and treatment aspects. The topics were presented in power point format and information was collected from various sources like textbooks and guidelines. The Pharm D student discussed about the management of various complications of CKD which included hypertension, anemia, mineral bone disorders, hyperkalemia and importance of glycemic control. Management of each complication based on evidences from KDIGO guidelines along with its dose, advantage of one therapy over the other, treatment algorithms, newer therapies and drugs currently under trials were discussed. The treatment options were presented. Non-pharmacological management like reduction in protein intake, salt intake, lifestyle modifications were addressed. The presentations were facilitated by Dr. Chethan, from the department of Nephrology and Mrs. Savitha R S from the department of Clinical Pharmacy. Dr. Chethan provided inputs on the important causes of the condition and also highlighted the importance of good presentation skills.
