Two Days National workshop on ' Protein Modeling and Drug Design: State of the Art Computational Tools ' was conducted on 13th and 14th September 2019 at the auditorium f JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty in association with Schrodinger LLC, Bangalore and Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Nilgiris local branch. On 13th of September 2019 registration of delegates started at 9.00 AM. The Kit bags and other seminar materials are issued to all the delegates. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B. Suresh, Pro Chancellor, JSS AHER, Mysuru. Dr. R. Kalirajan, Asst. professor and Convenor of the workshop delivered the welcome address. Dr. Md. Afzal Azam, professor& Head and Chairman of the workshop highlighted the importance of computational chemistry tools in modern day to day research and genesis of the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B. Suresh, Pro Chancellor, JSS AHER, Mysuru and other dignitaries by lighting the lamp and the workshop chronicle was released by the Dr. B. Suresh and received by other dignitaries. Dr. S.P. Dhanabal Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, address the gathering and highlighted the importance of “Computational Tools for in Drug Discovery” process. Then the resource persons are introduced and felicitated by our department faculties. Distinguish speakers present for the two days National workshop: 1. Dr. Pritesh Bhat, Senior Scientist Applications, Schrodinger LLC., Bangalore. 2. Ms. Shelvia Malik, Accounts Manager and Business Development Officer, Schrodinger LLC, Bangalore. On the first day of workshop i.e. on 13th of September, 2019 the presentation and hands-on-training sessions are given by Dr. Pritesh Bhat and Ms. Shelvia Malik from Schrodinger LLC., Bangalore, on Structure based drug design covering ligand preparation, protein modeling, homology modeling, different docking tools and methods, interpretation of docking results. For hands-on-training delegates, faculty, research scholars and PG students were provided with laptops by Schrodinger Inc., USA. Also some of their own laptops are installed with Schrodinger suit software. The first day workshop was completed at 6.00 pm on 13th September, 2019. Second day of workshop i.e. on 14th of September, 2019 started at 9.30 AM. The presentations and hands-on-training sessions are given by Dr. Pritesh Bhat and Ms. Shelvia Malik from Schrodinger LLC., Bangalore, covering Pharmacophore modeling, substructure matching, 2D and 3D QSAR and fragment based drug design. The session was continued up to 4.00 pm after lunch break. For hands-on-training delegates, our faculty, research scholars and PG students were provided with laptops by Schrodinger Inc., USA. A total of 40 delegates from various parts of country were selected for this seminar including senior faculty, research scholars and PG students from various discipline like Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry specialization. A total of 25 delegates from our college were selected including our faculty, research scholars and PG students from various deparments. Certificates are also issued to all delegates and eminent resource persons. Honorarium and certificates were also issued to all speakers by dignitaries. Dr. Gomathi Swaminathan, lecturer, conveyed the vote of thanks at the end of valedictory function. Herewith we take this opportunity to thank you for giving us opportunity to organize the workshop.
