Quality improvement in Emergency Medicine

Learn practical steps to improve patient care

Adapted from the WHO SEARO training module for Point of Care Quality Improvement

Is your door to balloon time longer than the standard 90 minutes?
Is infection control and hand hygiene practiced properly in your facility?
Do patients have to wait for a long time to receive care?
Do you feel medication use in your ER can be improved?
Are lab results lost or delayed?
Do you want to provide even better care to your patients?

We are delighted to bring to you quality improvement training that will help you to select quality and patient safety gaps and improve your ER functioning. The workshop is based on the point of care quality improvement module (POCQI) developed by USAID ASSIST, WHO SEARO, AIIMS and other international agencies.

Quality improvement is a routine practice in many health systems around the world. However, limited opportunities exist in India to learn this key skill. The ER is a complex environment that needs systematic team work and problem – solving.

We will share case stories from India where these methods have been applied to improve ER services. And then you will work on defining your own quality improvement work in your setting. By the end of this workshop you will learn a simple and more effective way to address quality issues.

Today’s physician and nurse needs to know much more than direct patient care. Through quality improvement you learn team-work, management and leadership skills.

Quality improvement is a team effort. We recommend teams of staff members (including physicians and nurses) attend this workshop together.
