Special Olympics Bharat

Special Olympics Bharat is a National Sports Federation also registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882 in 2001 and is accredited by Special Olympics International to conduct Special Olympics Programs in India. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India as a National Sports Federation in the Priority Category, fordevelopment of Sports for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, and is a designated Nodal Agency for all disabilities on account of its national presence and experience, especially in rural areas which account for nearly 75 per cent of the disabled population in India.

An all-India event was organized on 5th April 2022 and 7th April 2022. The target was to screen 75000 children with the help of 7500 doctors in 75 cities on 7th April 2022 to celebrate 75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The JSS team was provided Prerana trust Fund in mandya as the venue.

Prerana Trust for the Disabled at Mandya is running a free boarding hostel for the blind and physically challenged students. 24 were blind, 21 were speech and hearing impaired, 13 were with various physically challenged among them. All are given free education boarding’s hostel to stay and school uniforms and all other basic amenities with free of cost (under the Progressive Educational Training) with help of a generous donation by the public and other phylum Homopists and educationists with liberal donation.

On 5th April 2022, a team of interns and pgs with Dr.Nandlal and Dr. Reshma had gone to inspect the venue.

On 7th April 2022, 48 dental volunteers (faculty, interns and pgs) from JSS Dental College and few volunteers from diet and nutrition department of JSS Medical College reached the venue around 9am.

The children were called from various schools like JSS School, Aashna Sadan etc. Once the children were brought their id cards were scanned and a brief screening was done. A HASS form was taught to the dental volunteers during the training program (21-25th march 2022).

Various variables like untreated decay, missing teeth, injury, restorations were evaluated and recorded in the form.

The program was from 9am to 1pm. After which the children and the team were provided with lunch. At Mandya center, 110 children were screened by the dental team. All India, 93954 kids were screened out of which 52,464 underwent dental screening.
