The faculty and PG students of the Department of Forensic Odontology organized a webinar on the 17th of September, 2021, from 3 pm to 6 pm on the topic: ' Role of Forensic Odontology in Criminal Investigations ' by keynote speaker Dr. Hemlata Pandey, Assistant Professor & Forensic Odontology Consultant at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai; moderated by Dr. Swathi Kumareswar, Course - Coordinator ( MSc. Forensic Odontology ), Department of Forensic Odontology, JSS DCH. The event was presided over by the Chief Guest, Dr. Ashith B Acharya, Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Odontology, SDM College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka. The expert talk consisted of discussions of various interesting criminal cases in which Dr. Hemlata was actively involved in assisting the police in their investigations. The talk was followed by a panel discussion by the panelists, Dr. Anil Kumar G, Senior Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, JSS DCH; Dr. Chandrakanth H V, Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine, JSS MC; Dr. Usha Hegde, Professor, and Head, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, JSS DCH. The speaker and the panelists actively engaged in answering the various questions raised by the attendees. Finally, the chief guest shared his experience in criminal investigations. There were a total of 1057 registrations out of which 157 were composed of UG/ PG / Faculty from dental and forensic science backgrounds, private practitioners, and police personnel. The programe also motivated the young dentist to choose Forensic Odontology as a career option.
