International Webinar on Chemical Plaque Control - Busting the Myths

Plaque control is the regular removal of dental plaque and the prevention of its accumulation on the teeth and adjacent gingival surfaces. Plaque management consists of the use of mechanical procedures and chemical agents that retard the formation of plaque. Chemical plaque regulation was used only as an extension and not as a replacement to the mechanical means. Further improve the performance of plaque management programs using anti-plaque agents as an adjuvant to mechanical plaque control.

The Department of Periodontology, JSS Dental College & Hospital, Mysuru organized an International Webinar on 'Chemical Plaque Control: Busting the Myths' on 16th July 2021 with the following Learning objectives: The webinar discussed the use of chemical plaque control in contemporary dental clinical practice and included 19 PGs..

It focused on the following points:

1. Understanding mechanisms of action of oral antiseptics commonly used in dental clinical practice

2. Evidence-based use of oral antiseptics for various clinical indications.

3. Understanding and minimizing their adverse effects

4. Explaining misconceptions related to chemical plaque control.

The Resource Faculty, Dr Tihana Divnic-Resnik is currently working as a Senior Clinical Lecturer, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Periodontics at University of Sydney, Australia. The Session was moderated by Dr Harsha M B, Professor & Head, Dept. of Periodontology, Hasanamba Dental College, Hassan, Karnataka, India.
