Inaugurating the Anatomy Museum- A Sanctum of Dead Teaching the Living by dignitaries

With the blessings of Jagdguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the inaugural function of renovated Anatomy museum was held on 28th July 2020 at 10 am in JSS Medical College premises.

The program was graced by chief guest Sri SP Manjunath sir, Secretary JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Also Dr.CG Betsurmath, Executive secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. Surindher Singh Vice chancellor, JSSAHER, Dr Kushalappa, Director Academics, JSSAHER, Principal H Basavanagowdappa, Vice Principals Dr.Suma MN & Dr.GV Manjunath and Administrative officer Mr Sathish Chandra adorned the beautifully well illuminated museum.

Lighting the lamp and initiating the Histology App and Bar Coding system for Museum Specimens.

The guests gave a splendid initiation to HIDI, a mobile application for medical students in learning histology and Bar codes which provide the detailed information about the specimens, audible through headphones with videos.

Museum has a wide collection of specimen which includes dissected human parts, foetuses showing different stages of development & rare congenital anomaly specimen, embryology models & charts. The museum has Plastinated specimens, where they can touch the organs & study. Each specimen is displayed with relevant description & images. The museum is open to the public and students at free of cost. School and college children of Mysore district & other districts visit anatomy museum to learn about body parts. On an average of 20 schools & colleges (50-200 students/visit) visit the museum every year.

Museum started in the year 1984 in the heritage building, then in 1986 shifted to new building under the leadership of Dr.Jayavelu. Initially started for MBBS students to learn anatomy later it was extended to other courses and to the public and school & college students. The specimens were dissected by the faculty and also were collected from pathology department and anomalous babies collected from JSS hospital and nearby nursing homes. Charts were prepared by Dr.Jayavelu, Dr.NM Shamasundar and Mr Jambukeshav. Photography was taken and hand painted and laminated. Models were prepared by Mr RC Kumar & Mrs Mangalamma.

Museum will be open to public as well as it will be utilised for Small group teaching for students.
