Student Research Fair 2020 for Dental Postgraduates was held on 10th and 11th March 2020 at Sri Gowrishankara Auditorium by the Dental Education Unit (DEU) wing of CCLPE, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSSAHER, Mysuru. The event was presided by Dr.Balasubramanian S, Dean and Director Research JSSAHER with Dr.Kushalappa PA as Guest of Honour. Dr.Ravindra S , Principal JSSDCH extended greetings for this academic pursuit with his welcome address . Dr.Balasubramanian S in his thought-provoking address to the young researchers emphasized the need of two important aspects for purusing clinical research, they being ‘ Perseverance and Hard work’. He also stated that the initiatives taken in the recent years by JSS Dental College & Hospital towards clinical research is commendable and in par with the premium Dental institutions of the country. Dr.Kushalappa PA appreciated the remarkable growth of DEU and congratulated their team spirit to reach its current state. He underlined the need to have a learner’s attitude be it a student or a faculty in the pursuit of research and encouraged the students to utilize the platform of this Research Fair in refining their projects towards quality publication. The STS ICMR 2019-20 scholarship awardee Mr. Tamal Das of second BDS was presented a token of appreciation by the dignitaries for his clinical research project guided by Dr.Sunilasangappa, Department of Prosthodontics. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.Sunila B Sangappa, Convener, while she assured to take forward the mission of DEU to its greater heights.

Research fair evidenced a panel of stalwart researchers as chairpersons to evaluate the student presentation namely Dr. Subba Rao M.V.S.S.T, Professor CEMR Laboratory ,Dept of Biochemistry , Dr. ParamahansaV.Salimath Associate Director (Research), Dr. Rajesh Kumar T, Associate Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, Dr. Rajalakshmi Professor and Head, Dept of Phyisology and eminent dental fraternity Dr. Jayanaidu Professor & Head, Dept of Pediatrics and & Preventive Dentistry, Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Dr. Harsha M B, Professor and Head ,Dept of Peiriodontology, Sri Hasanamba Dental College, Hassan. The student research fair witnessed 24 scientific paper presentation by final year postgraduate students of their completed dissertation and 14 poster presentations by the second-year postgraduate students. The competent chairpersons judiciously evaluated scientific papers with their expertise adding in constructive feedback. The elaborative scientific session ended with concluding remarks by Dr. ParamahansaV.Salimath . Declaration of cash prize winners for best scientific paper and poster presentations. The prize winners were Dr. Archana Shankar ( First prize), Department of Periodontology , second prize was shared by Dr. Manu Bhaskaran Department of Periodontology and Dr. Raghavee of Department of Pedodontics . The prize winners for poster presentation were Dr. Medha Sharma ( First prize) Department of Periodontology, Dr. Shreepriya (second prize) of Department of Pedodontics.

Events on the second day of Research fair was enriched by the exemplary presentations on topics of ‘Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation, External Funding for Research Projects’ and ‘Innovations and Patents in Medical and Dental Devices’ by Dr.PraveenKulkarini , Associate Professor Department of Community Medicine JSSMC and Dr. Prashanth S Assistant Director Research, JSSAHER respectively. 36 postgraduates and 14 Interns benefitted from the days event.Overview of the steps towards refining the Manuscript towards Quality Publication, different ways of presenting the research outcomes, Publication Process, Selection of a Journal, Ethical issues in Publication were highlighted along with session detailing on how to write a Research grant proposal for different external funding Agencies and the recommended process. Roadmap to carry forward research outcome into patents and commercialization with support and guidance from Sparkle Cine, JSSAHER was outlined effectively by Dr.Prashanth S.
