All India Council for Technical Education organized a three day faculty development program on student induction for the teaching staff across India. About 62 participants from nearly 12 states had registered and participated. I Dr. M.P. Gowrav, Lecturer, Dept of Pharmaceutics, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSSAHER, Mysuru had an opportunity to attend the program. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Neethu Bhagath, Deputy Director, AICTE, New Delhi and other honourable guests were Dr. Manoj Kumar Tiwary, Regional Officer, AICTE, Dr. RCS Mehta, Director-General, GEHU & Ex- AICTE expert committee member, Dr. Anil Kumar Baliga, Director, GEHU, Bhimtal campus, Dr Ajay Kumar, Director, GEHU, Dehradun campus and Dr. Amarendra Kumar, Asso. Professor, IIT BHU on 17th June 2019 at 10:00 am followed by sessions. Dr. Amarendra Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept of Mining Engineering, IIT (BHU) was the speaker for the three days. The concept of student induction first started in the IITs and it was implemented throughout the country. The basic idea behind this was to bring universal human values among the staff and the students. Introducing values in education is a way to reach all human beings. Human values course is an attempt to teach about values. However, for it to be effective, the teaching method is not based on dos and don’ts. For understanding of ones expectations, it would require clarity of ones goals, besides knowledge about living in family, society and nature. Apart from that other topics which were covered was about difference between competition and excellence, gratitude, anger management, peer pressure, prosperity, selfconfidence, relationships, identity and assumptions, naturalness and originality etc were some of the important things discussed. The overall idea of the workshop was to create self confidence among students. I take this opportunity to thank Dr. T.M.
