World no tobacco day was observed jointly by JSS Urban Health Centre, NSS Unit of JSS Medical College and JSS College of Nursing, at JSS Urban Health Centre, Medar block on 17-06-2019. World no tobacco day is an annual awareness day observed worldwide on 31st May, intended to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and to encourage abstinence from all forms of tobacco. Theme of world no tobacco day 2019 focused around “Tobacco and lung health”. Anti tobacco rally and street play was organized as a part of world no tobacco day. The rally was flagged off by Dr. Sunil Kumar D., Associate Professor of Community Medicine; Dr. Bharath T., NSS Programme Officer of JSS Medical College unit and Assistant Professor of Physiology; Dr. Rajeshwari L., Associate Professor of Physiology; Dr. Champaka Malini M.S., Lady Medical Officer of JSS Urban Health Centre at 10.30AM in front of JSS Urban Health Centre. Dr. Nagendra, Medico Social Worker of JSS Urban Health Centre; Ms. Usharani and Ms. Nisha Nair, faculty of JSS College of Nursing were present. The rally covered entire Medar block area creating awareness among general public about the ill effects of consumption of tobacco. Later, a street play was performed at JAWA road by the students of JSS College of Nursing lucidly conveying the health related complications of tobacco consumption like high blood pressure, heart problems, lung problems, oral cancer etc. It was also mentioned that cancer would eventually lead to death of the patient if not attended to timely. Staff of JSS Urban Health Centre, faculty of JSS Medical College, faculty of JSS Nursing College, Nursing students, Medical house surgeons, Dental house surgeons, staff of primary health centre and general public participated in the rally.
