National Undergraduate Medical Conference, ASCLEPIUS, 2019

Asclepius, the second edition, national undergraduate conference has been organized by the Student Research Cell of JSS Medical College, a constituent college of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, in collaboration with the Asian Medical Students Association- India (AMSA – India), and endorsed by Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Karnataka Chapter, Association of Physicians of India – Karnataka Chapter, Mysore Physicians Medical and Research Trust and the American Heart Association. Day 1 The conference began with the inauguration by the esteemed chief guest, Dr.C.G.Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha accompanied by Dr.B.Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, and Dr.P.A.Kushalappa, Director, (Academics), JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research as the guests of honor. Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa, Vice Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research presided over the event. Dr M N Suma & Dr G V Manjunath Vice principals were present. Dr.Vikram Patil launched the Digital Journal of Clinical Sciences, a publication of JSSAHER. The inauguration was followed by the keynote address by Dr.Krishna Prasad from Minds Foundation on the topic – “learning efficiently in a professional course”. Following which Dr.Prashant Mathur, Director, National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research, (ICMR), Bengaluru delivered a guest lecture on “Research in Medicine: The Role of Physician Scientist” and Dr.Roli Mathur, Scientist F, National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research, (ICMR), Bengaluru deliberated on “Short Term Studentship Program and ICMR Ethical Guidelines” followed the keynote address. Preliminary rounds for the Pre- and Para-Clinical, and Clinical quiz took place followed by the Research Paper Presentation. The second half of the day mainly exhibited multiple hands- on workshops including: Orthopedics Skills, Basic Suturing Skills, Research Methodology, Rational Use of Antibiotics and Crime Scene Investigation. The conclusion of the erudite workshops marked the end for the first day! Day 2 Day 2 was set in motion with the initiation of the major workshops: “Emergency Medicine and Critical Care” and Diagnostic and Clinical skills”. An educative and interactive Panel Discussion took place on the topic: ‘Mental Health Among Undergraduates’ succeeded by the Medical Debate and progressed to lunch. The subsequent part of the day began with the guest lecture by the highly acclaimed Dr. Mario Vaz on: “How to Learn Medicine From History” followed by the invigorating and thrilling events of Medical Charades and Pictionary. The cultural night: ’Ethos’, embraced exquisite performances by Thandavam and the Music Medicine Masti (M3) clubs, ice-breaker events, stand-up comedy, open mic and marked the end of the 2nd day. Day 3 The concluding day commenced with the Clinical Case and Poster Presentations. After which, the gripping finale for both the Clinical and the Pre- and Para- Clinical quiz took place. To mark the end of this magnificent conference the Valedictory Ceremony took place. Dr. S Sacchidanand, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Dr. Mamta Jawa, Faculty of Microbiology, Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences were the chief guests for the event. Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa, Vice Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research presided over the event. Dr G V Manjunath, Vice Principal (Clinical) ad Dr Suma M N, Vice Principal (Pre and Para clinical), JSS Medical College, Mr. Shreyans Darla, Mr Rishabh Jain, Organizing Secretaries of Asclepius were present on this occasion. Winners for various events were felicitated. Mysore Medical College was awarded as the top performing college with the Championship Trophy. Faculty coordinator Dr. Praveen Kulkarni gave the closing remarks and vote of thanks. A total of 545 delegates from more than 45 medical colleges across the country have participated in the event and more than 100 clinical and scientific research papers were presented in the conference.
