The 1990 batch of JSS Medical college seem to be full of ‘Wonder Women’. First it was Dr Uma Madhusudhan who exhibited courage and selflessness. Now it’s Dr. Shalini Nalwad , co-founder and Director of ICATT Air Ambulance services who took upon herself to do yet another exemplary selfless act. The International Critical-Care Air Transfer Team (ICATT) picked up Hyderabad based young man who suffered Hip fracture from Bargam airport, Afghanistan in in their air ambulance and landed at the Hyderabad international airport. The man while working in Afghanistan had sustained an injury which resulted in a fracture of his hip. Bargam doesn’t have facilities to treat and delaying his treatment could leave him permanently disabled or even lead to death.The injury would have led to pulmonary thrombo or fat embolism. ICCAT had to get permission from five different ministries to evacuate the patient from Afghanistan. It took them four days to do so. Dr. Rahul Singh and Dr. Shalini Nalwad both trained in UK have launched these air ambulance services in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Dr Shalini is yet another outstanding example of courage, innovation and dedication that students at JSS Medical College, Mysuru get during their studies here. We are proud of you Dr Shalini .
