Department of Pharmacy Practice in association with Pharmacy Education Unit (PEU) of JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Benefit-Risk Assessment’ on 23rd July 2018 at Seminar Hall, Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. Dr. John Talbot, Senior Lecturer, Pharmacovigilance, University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom was the speaker for this lecture. Dr. John Talbot started the lecture with the definitions of Benefit, Risk and Benefit-Risk Assessment. He mentioned the terminologies used in Benefit-Risk like Benefit-Risk Ratio, Benefit-Risk Balance, Benefit Harm Balance, and Benefit-Risk Assessment. He explained about the process and methodologies used in Benefit-Risk Assessment and also explained about the strategies for improving the Benefit-Risk Balance. Dr. John Talbot explained about the definition, reasons, and process of Risk Management, Risk Mitigation activities and Risk Management plans. At the end of the presentation he gave some real-time examples like Risk-Benefit Balance of Clozapine, Isotretinoin and Natalizumab. Fifth & Sixth Pharm.D students attended for this guest lecture. Following lecture, an interactive session was held wherein the fifth and sixth Pharm.D students have had interaction with the speaker.
