Drug Safety Evaluation and Pharmacovigilance

Department of Pharmacy Practice in association with Pharmacy Education Unit (PEU) of JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Drug Safety Evaluation and Pharmacovigilance’ on 23rd July 2018 at Seminar Hall, Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. Dr. John Talbot, Senior Lecturer, Pharmacovigilance, University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom was the speaker for this lecture. Dr. John Talbot started the lecture with the definitions of Pharmacovigilance, Adverse Event, Adverse Drug Reaction, Signal and Hypothesis. He explained in detail about the importance of Pharmacovigilance in pre-marketing studies like Clinical Trials with few real-time examples. He also explained about the limitations of pre-marketing clinical studies in identifying safety issues and addressing these limitations through post-marketing studies like spontaneous reporting and other Pharmacoepidemiological studies. Faculty & M. Pharm students of Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacology attended this guest lecture. Following lecture, an interactive session was held wherein staff and students have had interaction with the speaker.
