Introduction to Pharmacovigilance and National International Scenario of Pharmacovigilance and Causality Assessment of Adverse Drug Reactions

Department of Pharmacy Practice in association with Pharmacy Education Unit (PEU) of JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru organized a series of Guest Lectures on three topics viz. ‘Introduction to Pharmacovigilance’ and ‘National & International Scenario of Pharmacovigilance’ and ‘Causality Assessment of Adverse Drug Reactions’ on 10th November 2018 at College Seminar Hall, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. Mr. Ay Uma Manohar Gopal, Associate Team Lead, Bioclinica, Mysuru; Dr. Pramod Kumar A and Ms. Mallika, Senior Drug Safety Associates, Bioclinica, Mysuru were the speakers. The series of guest lectures were organised with an objective to make the participants understand the concept and the present global scenario of Pharmacovigilance, and also the causality assessment of reported adverse drug reactions. Mr. Ay Uma Manohar Gopal spoke on ‘Introduction to Pharmacovigilance’. During his lecture, he dealt with concept of Pharmacovigilance and its importance. Also he briefed the audience on the different sections of pharmacovigilance with special reference to career opportunities. Dr. Pramod Kumar A spoke on ‘National & International Scenario of Pharmacovigilance’. In his talk, he highlighted on the current status and the newer aspects of Pharmacovigilance both at National and International level. Ms. Mallika spoke on ‘Causality Assessment of Adverse Drug Reactions’. During her talk, she explained on various approaches and the different scales that are used in the assessment of causality of reported adverse drug reactions. Staff and students (Vth & VIth year Pharm.D and PG Diploma in Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Research) of Department of Pharmacy Practice attended the guest lectures. At the end of the session, participants got an opportunity to interact with the speakers and clarify their doubts. Dr. Umesh M, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Mysuru coordinated the guests lectures.
