M.Pharm Students of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs as part of their academic curriculum attended “InnoPharm 3rd International Conference on Academic and Industrial Innovations: Transitions in Pharmaceutical, Medical and Biosciences” which was held at Kala Academy, Goa from 22nd to 23rd Oct 2018. It was an event organized under the Innovare Academic Sciences (IAS) in association with Paramita Health Care Society and Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Clinical Research (AJPCR)/International Journal of Applied Pharmaceutics (IJAP) (Both, Scopus indexed and UGC listed) as a publishing partner. Students also had an opputunity to visit Unichem Laboratories, Pilerne Industrial Area, Goa on 24th October 2018. The visit was scheduled from October 22nd to 24th 2018. About 30 Students along with two teaching staffs Dr. Gowrav M.P. and Mr. Hemanth Kumar S had visited Goa. InnoPharm 3 Conference On 22nd October 2018 the program was inaugurated by Dr. Praveen Khullar, Global Development Center of Sanofi-Synthelabo (I) Ltd., Senior Director Development Center, Goa and Deputy Head of Industrial Development for Established Products and Generics followed by plenary sessions. Scientific sessions was held on 22nd and 23rd October 2018. About 30 M.Pharm students presented posters on their respective research works and also few Ph.D scholars of our college also presented oral sessions. The conference concluded with valedictory function on 23rd October at 4 P.M. Industrial Visit to Unichem Laboartories, Goa Founded by the late Mr. Amrut Mody, Unichem Laboratories Ltd. is one of India’s most respected pharmaceutical companies committed to deliver better health through superior products. Unichem has several pharma products that address the needs of relevant and growing therapeutic areas like gastroenterology, cardiology, diabetology, psychiatry, neurology, anti-bacterials, anti-infectives and pain management. Unichem’s Goa plant is located at Pilerne, which is about 12 Km from the capital city Panjim. Built in 1997, it caters to the whole of Unichem’s export market. The Goa plant is consistently meeting the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines, WHO and other statutory requirements including zero water discharge criteria. This plant has been rigorously inspected, inter alia, by USFDA and MHRA on a regular basis as it caters to the majority of the European and American markets. The Goa plant is approved by: • Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) • Medicines Control Council (MCC) – South Africa • Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) – U.K. • Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) – Australia • ANVISA – Brazil Students along with the staff reached Unichem Laboratories at 09:30 a.m. on 24th October 2018. This plant manufactures tablets and capsules for global market. Mr. Abhay Parab, Central Security incharge welcomed and instructed the students to adhere to the rules and regulations of the company. Mr. Mandar Sadekar, Executive- Validation team (QA department) explained the students about the gowning practices and plant layout of the Unichem Laboratories. Then the students were divided in three groups and Mr. Mandar explained the complete section of secondary packaging and warehousing practices. The company was installed with five CVC Automatic lines where the tablets were packed and cartooned in one single assembly. Mr. Chethan and Mr. Chandan, who are currently doing their M.Pharm internship in the company also accompanied with us and explained about the ARS warhousing practices. Atlast students thanked Mr. Mandar for giving their valuable time. Students also had an opportunity to interact and ask for their queries.
