WORLD PHARMACIST DAY CELEBRATIONS

At the 2009 Council meeting the FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, the Turkish Pharmacists Association suggested to annually celebrate a World Pharmacists Day, to be organised on September 25 (the day that FIP was founded in 1912). This proposal was unanimously accepted by the Council and since 2010. The purpose of World Pharmacists Day is to encourage activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world. Each year the JSS college of Pharmacy, Mysore welcomes a new theme to showcase the pharmacist in their positive affect on health. This year?s theme was “From Research to health care: Your pharmacist at your service” and celebrated on 23rd September 2017. The program started by a devotional invocation song by Ms. Ann and group which gave a divine start to the World Pharmacists Day celebration. Dr.G.V.Pujar, Professor and Head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru and President, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mysuru, Local Branch, welcomed the gathering. During his welcome address he told the importance of the present theme and gave account of the programs to be followed. Prof. Dr. K.S. Rangappa, Chief Guest and former VC University of Mysore and Karnataka State Open University, Mysore, expressed heartfelt wishes to the entire pharmacist community. He shared the contribution pharmacists made during his research. He briefed the various roll donned by the pharmacist apart for just dispensing medicines. Further he acknowledged the contribution in developing advanced medicine and drug delivery systems which has enhanced the life expectancy of Indians by highlighting various examples. Finally he appreciated the IPA for starting the awards which will encourage the researchers in pharmacy. Dr. Hanumanthachar Joshi, Vice President , Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mysuru Local branch & Principal, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, Mysuru briefed the Theme of the World Pharmacists Day celebration 2017 which is “From Research to health care: Your pharmacist at your service”. During his address he dignified the Pharmacist as Brahma of Medicine. As Lord Brahma created the universe, similarly the Pharmacist creates the Medicine which saves humans. Further he warned the hazards of dispensing medicines through the machines like an ATM and online selling of medicines, where the role of pharmacist is minimal. The Event progressed with distributing Aushada Ratha, JSS Mahavidyapeetha and Tablet Cup- Cricket Tournament awards To recognize the contributions of Pharmacist, Aushada Ratna Awards was presented for 3 categories: Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy and Academic Pharmacy. The recipients of this year?s AushadaRatna award are; (From Left to Right sitting on chair) For Community Pharmacy - Sri RavindraBabu .R, Proprietor, Ravi Medicals,Mysuru, Hospital Pharmacy - Sri Mahesh Kumar .V, Chief Pharmacist, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Krishnarajendra Hospital, Mysore, Mysuru and for Academic Pharmacy - Dr. D. Vishakante Gowda, Professor and Head, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. The Award Function was followed by Sri Shivakumar C.M. Deputy Drug Controller, Mysore speech. In his address, he shared some of his experience in the areas of handling of prescriptions. He appreciated the contribution of made by Dr. Rangappa and motivated students to take up research. He told the importance of „P? in letter in „Pharmacist?word, which means Polite, Patience and perfection without „P? the word becomes „Harmcist?. He then said “there is no Honour bestowed on Pharmacist by the state or central government for their contribution made in improving the health of the society. Hence it a good start by the IPA, Mysore Branch, to honour and recognise the efforts of Pharmacist in different areas”. Dr. Md.Salahuddin, Principal, Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Mysore, also graced the occasion with his presence. During his address he equated Pharmacist to „Maseeha?. He also briefed different rolls that pharmacist plays during his professional life. The presidential remarks were delivered by Dr. T.M. Pramod Kumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. In his remarks, he highlighted the humble nature of the Dr. Md. Salahuddin, Principal, Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Mysore Sri Mahesh Kumar V, Chief Pharmacist, Mysore Medical College Honouring Dr. Md.Salahuddin, Principal, Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Mysore Pharmacist. The also said that PCI President is planning to make a special provision to give rights to Prescription to Pharmacist in rural parts of India where Medical Practitioner are not available. Felicitation of IPA, Mysore Branch members was the next event, wherein the efforts of the members were recognised by awarding a moment. Vote of thanks was rendered by Dr. J. Suresh, Professor and Head, Dept. of Pharmacognosy, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. He thanked all the dignitaries, organizers, participants and students. The event was partnered by JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, Karnataka State Government Pharmacist's Association, Mysuru, Railway Pharmacist's Association, Mysuru, ESI Pharmacist's Association, Mysuru, Chemists & Druggists Association, Mysuru and Karnataka Registered Pharmacist Association, Karnataka. The national was sung by everyone present before dispersing for lunch. The celebration was concluded with the promise to deliver a better health care and continue the good work.
